Denominations Are Not of God...

I would first like to clarify something. When I speak of denominations, I am only referring to the denominational structure itself, ie: Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, etc, not believers within the denomination, so don't freak out just yet. God's plan for the church was unity, not division, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how the body of Christ has been divided by the forming of denominations. Let's look at the scripture concerning what God originally intended for His church.

"I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." (1Corinthians 1:10) Could it really be any clearer? God's will for His church is that we all speak the same thing, that there be no divisions among us, and that we be perfectly joined together. If we look at the denominational structure of today, we can plainly see they are certainly not perfectly joined together and obviously not speaking the same thing. So what has happened? Why do we have so many denominations? The answer is quite simple, satan is working among us, and he knows scripture better than most Christians, especially this one. "And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand." (Mark 3:25)

It was satan's scheme to divide the body of Christ by forming denominations because he knew that if he had any chance of diminishing the power of God in the church, he must first divide it, and it appears to me that he's done a pretty good job of doing just that...until now. In recent years, we have seen an influx of non-denominational churches springing up everywhere. This is the work of the Holy Spirit as He is once again uniting the body of Christ in these latter days. Denominations have divided the body of Christ, and God is in the process of instituting a remedy for this problem, and yes it is, and has been a problem. We first understand that at the judgment, God isn't going to ask us what denomination we belong to. The only thing He will be concerned about on that day, is if we have been born again through faith in the sacrifice and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. This alone shall determine our eternal destiny and if we are allowed entrance into His glorious Kingdom, not our denominational affiliations...

  1. I believe that Denominations are allowed to exist to branch out to more people. Like someone who needs structure may find the Catholic church appealing while someone else might hate the Catholic Church but love the Baptist denomination.

Let's look at what God's says about the subject. "I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment." (1Corinthians 1:10)
