Is Christian Rock Music Evil?

Is Christian Rock music really evil?

Let me first begin with this statement. No, Christian rock music is not evil simply because some people hate loud, clanging cymbals and screeching guitars. It was God Himself who created music and it is satan who perverted that music for his own purposes. Evil is rooted in the "heart" of man, not in an inanimate object, such as an instrument that has no soul. Just because some people hate that style of music, that doesn't make it evil, sorry.

Music that is evil must meet certain criteria. First, those who create and play the music must be evil themselves, they must have an evil heart, or they can also be backslidden Christians who embrace their carnality and live after the flesh, and not the Holy Spirit. The words of the songs, the heart of those playing, these are what makes any style of music evil. It's not the genre of music, the kind of instruments, nor is it the volume that makes it wicked.

There are two styles of Christian music. One style sings ABOUT Christ, while the other style of Christian music sings TO Him, as in worship. Neither are wrong or bad but the latter is, in my opinion, the proper way to create and play Christian music...in worship to God. There is also what I refer to as Christian music with no anointing. This is what I mostly hear on contemporary Christian radio stations (which I avoid most of the time) It is Christian music, but you cannot sense any anointing of the Holy Spirit for various reasons I'm not going to elaborate on in this post.

Let's take a look at some scripture from the book of Psalms to see how they worshiped God with their music, starting in Psalm 150:1-6. "Praise ye the Lord, praise Him in His sanctuary, praise Him in the firmament of His power, praise him for his mighty acts, praise him according to his excellent greatness, praise him with the sound of the trumpet, praise him with the psaltery and harp, praise him with the timbrel and dance, praise him with stringed instruments and organs, praise him upon the loud cymbals, praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord."

Did you happen to catch that? Praise Him upon the LOUD sounding cymbals, with stringed instruments, trumpets, organs, etc. God embraces the praises of His people and He accepts any and all kinds of worship WHEN that worship comes sincerely from the heart. With so many different cultures in our world, God doesn't just pick and choose worship that meets OUR criteria. He embraces all.

He also isn't interested in how well the worship sounds, how loud our worship is, how out of tune it may appear to others. God embraces our worship when it comes from a pure heart, no matter if that worship comes through music, dance, or simple words.

So let us hear the conclusion. Our worship to God is not limited by the opinions of others. As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, God is looking for your worship out of a sincere heart, no matter how you try to express your worship. If it comes from a heart that loves God, He not only accepts it, He embraces it.
